7th Edition Test Game

Summoned Deamons oh noes!
Hello! So We played a practice game of 7th Edition yesterday. I used my Grey Knights whilst my opponent used Chaos Space Marines. We set out to squeeze as many warp charges into our lists while still trying out all the new rules we could. We ended up both having 10 warp charges. It was a late night so we only played 2 Turns.

The Psychic phase was really very fun. Its a learning process to pick the order of your powers and such. My opponent learned that when he could have cast a spell to prevent the scatter of his summoned deamons. I learned when you want to spend your deny the witch pool. When it is just a single warp charge spell versus the higher costed spells. Having to deny all the charges is a great touch. I love that you have to cast force in the psychic phase, its much more of a deterrent now. People are less likely to waste speed bump units if they know that the unit has force activated or Iron arm, then say cast Gate of Infinity and go to the other side of the board right in their face. That's when you wish you'd spent more to dispel those buffs.

Four , Thousand Sons squads!
The deployment changes and rules clarifications are so much easier now. Can I disembark from a Rhino into the bunker. Look up the rules for buildings, done. I am really looking forward to getting a full game in now. Maybe next week, its looking like our first 7th Edition campaign will be Dark Angels Vs
Tyranids, with Chaos Space Marines and Grey Knights in the mix. It should be all painted so look forward to new battle report updates. If I get brave we might even try to record some. - Russ

Tyranid Update #5

Just a quick update! I got shrike in a trade a while back so I had him and Helbrecht sitting in some brake fluid to strip the paint off. I reclaimed my kitchen table! Moved all of my painting area into my old desk. I have primed the Venomthropes as well.
I finished painting up my Tervigons and my last Crone. I hit everything with the Army painter soft tone. I am Going to either use satin varnish or matte polish on them when they are dry. I used some time yesterday to actually base all of the remaining Monstrous creatures.  I am getting closer to assembling the gants! - Russ

Spotlight: Angels of Absolution

These are my friends Angels of Absolution. The Company vets are kitbashed from the Hi Tech miniatures spartan faces and a lot of  purity seals. The Dread has a few nice modifications as well. If you can notice the kit pieces leave a comment below!

I'm intimidated.

Twin Linked Heavy Flamer.

It always travels in style.

I found a spot that needs a purity seal :)

The Battlefield.

Game Type: Rules of Engagement
Chaos: Bridge Head, Control 1 of your objectives and one of your opponents..
Special rules :Infiltrate
Sentinels:  Unconventional Warfare, Control 2 randomized objectives. Special Rules: Deep Strike
Battlefield: Iron Bark (All rocky outcroppings are 3+cover, no area terrain)
No Nightfighting, No First blood, Line Breaker or Slay the warlord.
Game Turns: 6

Turn 1: Chaos infiltrates into Sentinels blind spot, one Obliterator steps out of the ruins and lines up a shot with his Multi-melta, The Chaos Rhinos move to use the ruins as cover. The Deamon Prince jumps across the battlefield. The Multi-melta Rips open the bunker killing 2 marines instantly. The Devastators climb out of the bunker only to be picked apart by Havoc launcher fire.
Battle lines are drawn.
The Deamon prince attempts to flamer the Thunder fire cannon to no effect. The other squad of devastators tried to bring down the Deamon Prince. The Scouts try as well, but it was no use. He dodges all the incoming fire. The Tac squads advanced and flanked the Obliterator. Using their combi melta's and melta guns managed to bring him down. The predator shrugs off the Mortar fire from the Thunder fire Cannon.

Turn 2:
The Scouts can see the Hell drake barreling down on them. They know what will happen if the fire manages to hit all of them. The Raptors arrive from deep strike as well landing behind the Thunder fire cannon. The Chaos Rhinos move again to line up havoc launcher shots. The Deamon prince vector strikes over the Thunder fire cannon but its to weak to do any real damage. The Burning brand puts the hurt on the devastators taking out 3 more, leaving them to burn. The Hell drake flames the scouts removing them all. The Raptors take shots at the Thunder fire cannon, using their Melta guns they cut through the fortified ruins and kill the Techmarine gunner. The radio for help was not lost as all of the Space Marine Reserves arrive. The Centurions and Librarian Deep strike onto their required objective, taking a wound on the way down. The Libby Casts endurance and Iron arm, he rolls a perils but the bones of osorak save him. The grav cannons warm up firing on the Predator but only manage 1 glance. One Storm Talon deep strikes in fly mode behind the Hell drake, the other lands behind the Deamon Prince, both with minimal scatter. Payback for the scouts the Storm talon takes out the Hell drake who's Deamon saves are not enough to stave off the overwhelming firepower. The Deamon prince suffers a 2 wounds and gets grounded, but manages to shrug off the wound. The Chaos Rhinos advance towards their objectives, the Loyalist move to intercept.
Air Support required.
Turn 3:
The Deamon prince Vector strikes over the remaining devastators taking them off the table. Making it almost impossible for Sentinels to score one of their objective's now. The Chaos Space marines fire shots into the  the Loyalist rhino exploding it over their objective. The Marines get shot with havoc launcher after havoc launcher and bolter fire as well. When the smoke clears only 3 Marines remain but they do not withdraw. The second Obliterator arrives and Fires his Melta shot into the second Rhino, Stunning it for a turn. The Raptors Strike out at the Centurions and make the assault. The Combat is fierce but the Centurions Shrug off their wounds. The raptors show no sign of letting up. The scattered Marines try to open up the chaos rhino and return the favor but fail to explode it. The second Rhino pops smoke hoping to weather the fire for a turn. The storm talon continues his pursuit of the Deamon prince but fails to scratch him, as the shots are knocked away almost supernaturally. The second storm talon closes in on the Predator and takes him out swiftly. The Combat goes south for the Raptors when the Centurion Sgt strikes down the Raptor aspiring champion. The Librarian takes out 1 marine. The raptors stay in combat.

Turn 4
The Deamon prince swoops behind the resilient  Marines. The Burning brand burns them down to one last man. The Chaos marines disembark from their rhino, open fire upon the lone marine and he makes all of his bolter saves before the melta gun finishes him off.
Twin linked melta gun misses against the lone Rhino and the Obliterator is forced to charge it bare handed. He gets a weapon destroyed and immobilized result. The marines pile out into the ruin. They are not pinned. The Centurions deal another wound to the chaos raptors and things are starting to look bleak. The Librarian finishes the last Raptor off and they consolidate onto the objective. The storm talon moves past the Deamon prince and moves to engage the disembarked chaos forces. Realizing the marines in the ruin can support them the storm talon fires at the Deamon prince with his assault cannon turret, The Deamon prince suffering his last wounds bug's out of the battle, not willing to die for these peons. The other storm talon moves behind the Chaos rhino and fires into it, at BS 5 and a twin linked assault cannon, the rhino cannot stay intact and detonates. The marines have to hold their objective to stay in the game. The squad of marines puts a bit of hurt onto the Chaos forces but they shrug off most of the firepower. The Centurions however manage to kill 5 marines off of their objective.
The marines fallback off the table edge with that we call the game.

Move to engage!

Sweep successful.

View of the Carnage!

Pile on the objective.
Predator opens fire!
Obliterator Sneak attack

We decided the game ended in a draw, The Chaos marines out numbered me 2 to 1 on their objective and they could lock me in combat. While holding the objective for turn 6. I only had one objective as well. Plus he had 2 mobile rhinos and an Obliterator to contest with. Rhinos are perfect for screening against centurions. All in all it was a great match! it was a back and forth game, like almost all of our Chaos vs. Loyalist matches it was a tie.

Battle Report: Tyranid Vs Dark Angels

The Swarm takes to the Skies!
Holiday Monday my chum and I managed to squeeze in an 1860 match! (The extra 10 points was for a multi-melta/ Toxic sacs) It was a vicious match, I wanted retaliation for a previous game where he tabled my Crimson Slaughter list rather handily. My Tyranids hungered! and I was out for blood. My friend did make one mistake which was combat squading his bikes but it actually was what got him a quick lead. The game was not a blow out by any means but the dice started to roll against my opponent early on.

Game Type: Purge The Alien
Secondary: The Scouring objectives 1,2,3 points
First blood, Warlord, Line Breaker
Deployment: Vanguard
Night Fight Turn 1

Ravenwing outflank
Turn 1:
The Landraider and speeders make a move to cross the table quickly knowing the Terminators can take out the Tervigons handily. The searchlights open up the Venomthrope and he quickly falls to a hail of assault cannon and bolter fire. First blood and a kill point goes to the Dark Angels. The Tyranid respond by passing out catalyst to the Crones and Hive Tyrant. The Land raider goes down to some lucky shooting by the Crones. The rest of the Tyranids run.

Turn 2: The Jet fighter fails to arrive. The land speeders move back sitting at arms reach and begin to try and bring down the Hive Tyrant. The last of the gunfire brings the Hive tyrant down and he suffers a wound. Unfortunately for the Terminators the Hive crone blocks the path to him. The Devastators pour rockets onto the Tervigon. Inflicting 2 more wounds. The Mawloc arrives but mishaps and gets placed across the map. He runs into the Difficult terrain making the marines work to assault him. The Tyranids respond by ripping the Land speeder and Dark Shroud apart with vector strikes. The Hive tyrant flanks to the right of the ruins and unleashes a hail of brain leech worms upon the devastators losing 2 rockets. The Crone runs to clear the ruin jockeying for position. The Gants continue to run.

Turn 3: The Jet Fighter fails to arrive yet again. The Dark Angels go on the offensive, putting more shots into the Gants closing the gap. The Devastators put 2 wounds onto the Zoenthropes and insta kill 2, failed invul saves! The Bikes move across the back board and put a wound onto the Mawloc. The remaining speeder puts another round of shots to the Tervigon but she makes her saves. The Marines put 2 more wounds onto the Mawloc before he makes his Hit and Run. The second Mawloc appears and Manages to kill 3 Terminators before dying to Mishap. The Hive crones and Hive Tyrant all make a beeline for the edge of the table. Vector striking 3 squads on the way by Killing 2 of them. The reaming mawloc makes his instinctive behavior and also burrows.
The Ravenwing try to quickly push the Gants back.
Devastators have a great view of the carnage.

The Gants try to slow the RavenWing.

The Mawloc claims a few Deathwing victims before being slain.

Devastators weathering the storm of fire.

Azzy carries his wound of shame.

Turn 4: The Jet Fighter arrives and heads towards the remaining Venomthrope, killing him quickly. the Gants get assaulted by the bike squads. The Dev's fire onto the Tervigon. The Dark Angels hopes of salvaging this battle are coming back. The Crones arrive, as well as the Hive Tyrant. The Crones only glance the Jet Fighter, the Hive Tyrant puts more shots into the devs, killing the other 2 rockets and wounding the libby. The bike squads thinking they are safe from shooting are surprised when the mawloc bursts into the combat. Killing a handful of Gants. The remaining Gants make it across the board withing striking distance of azzy. The tervigons spawn Gants onto their objectives before Moving to secure other objectives.

Turn 5 The Jetfighter moves to contest a objective and to try and finish the Tervigon. Rallying from their hit and run tactics. The bike squad with the power fist prepares to charge the Mawloc, only to lose the power fist to dangerous terrain. The Crone moves to take out the lone speeder. The other Crone contests the Deathwing claimed objective. The Hive Tyrant fires into the Libby and Sgt killing both.
with that the game ends. No extra turns.

Final Score
Dark Angels: 6 pts
Firstblood, Linebreaker ,4 Kill points.
Tyranid: 13 pts
Line breaker, 7 Kill points, 1 Scouring point , 4 objective points.

Spotlight:Grey Knights

I got a really good deal on tau last summer, but they are not my play style. I traded it for 2 Dread Knights and  30 GK terminators. I traded away both Dread knights sadly, I did get a Storm raven for one of them (not pictured storm raven). I don't recall what I got for the other however.  Even after all that wheeling and dealing I still have 15 Terminators and a decent Coteaz stand in. I really enjoy playing them from time to time. Prescience storm bolters and Psy Cannons are just a hoot!.

The Ageis is cheese!
Psybolt ammo is a bonus.

Nemesis Force Halberds!

Apocalypse Battle Report

Not pictured the other 4 drop pods
The planet strike on the Ork held world of 32.86 was successful. The Imperial fist 3rd company struck hard at the ork defenses and swiftly crushed them under the heel of the Sentinels Fury. This allows for a few nice narrative games. The Ork player went first and kept his Dakka jets in reserve I think that was his mistake, he could have done alot more damage to my army if he would have went all out first turn. Both of our super heavies were destroyed but my warlord ended up getting killed by the Exterminatus on turn 2. The star of the game for me was a Heavy flamer, flamer dreadnought he survived the whole game and rampaged across the board like a champ.
